Tuesday - Election Day

"The greatness of America lies not is being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults."  Alexis de Tocqueville
Today is Election Day in America.  We are blessed with the ability to vote, and make our desire known to the people who are elected to represent our point of view.  We have a flawed system electing flawed people by the vote of flawed citizens.  This will result in flawed results, and someone will not be happy with the outcome.  Even so, we have the best of the best of nations, and the government of the people, by the people and for the people will decide where this nation is headed into the future.  Who takes us where and its direction has been bantered around for months?  But there has been something critical left out with all the predictions and discussions.  So, let's talk about it.  The scripture below states something different from what politicians and political predictors say to us.
"I say to the boastful, 'Do not boast,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horn; do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.'"  For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.  (Psalms 75:4-7 ESV)
There is a sober fact that we as God's people can find comfort even when we do not agree with who wins an election to the presidency, or who is appointed as the king of a country.  The fact is God is involved with it and He has a plan.  Now I realize that many of us are saddened by the 58 million abortions since 1973 in this country.  Many have tried to fight this tragedy since the Supreme Court ruled on Roe vs Wade.  Many have tried to get it reversed.  But others in this country have a different opinion, and the efforts to elect people who would change this law have not succeeded.  The question many ask is, where is God in this?  Well, I have a thought that He is waiting for those babies to welcome them into His kingdom when they are aborted, for a ruthless act of man doesn't change the loving nature of God.  Is He angry about it?  I think He is, and I also think that those responsible will face Him one day and see His anger, for God will not be outdone by the works of man.
There is another issue.  The people of this nation have been inundated with the LGBT agenda.  It is flaunted, coerced, and legalized.  Those of us who read our Bible know that homosexuality is a sin, and we read that Sodom and Gomorrah met with annihilation from an angry God because of becoming such a culture.  Christians have a right to be concerned for the welfare of our country and its people, for there are those in this country who want to make this nation the culture of Sodom.  Where was God in that powerful persuasion in Sodom, and as well now?  With Sodom He permitted it for a while.  But when He acted, it was with great suddenness and total destruction.  The thought that they were not accountable to God and His values even though they did not believe in Him was proven wrong.  It will be the same with this modern day attitude.  We will see Who really is in control and when He is ready they will come to understand that God is very clear on His perspective of homosexuality.  It is sin, and those who teach and lead otherwise will be accountable to God.  As with any sexual sin there is hope and an avenue for forgiveness through repentance.  But the sin and the consequence remain if there is no repentance.
There have been many ruthless kings, dictators and government leaders for thousands of years who have been allowed time to rule and hurt their people without check, but only for a while.  In the end, they all meet God and His plans head on and they lose.  It did not end well for them.  It will not end well for those in the present day who try to abuse and discriminate against Christians, our values and our rights.  They might think that their work in darkness will not be exposed.  But Light will one day shine on their works and all will know the truth of what they did.  God knows our deeds, good and bad, and that is an awesome concern for some who think they can control the spiritual, moral, ethical and legal values of this county without God's intervention.  Can we trust Him to take care of His family even if our country is violated with the evil of other people and the choices they make for us?  He has promised that He will.  We can trust Him and find comfort that His will, and His alone will be done.
There have been many times that God's own people have been persecuted, killed, tortured and deeply hurt, and it appeared that God either didn't care, or He was not aware of it.  That is a short view of God's work.  There is a long view, or end view of what God wants to accomplish and sometimes it appears that the bad guys are winning.  When it seems that way, we have to trust God's claim that He allows governments and leaders who are good or bad to be raised up to accomplish His purposes.  His purposes for His family are always good.  That is the good news that tells us that we cannot lose in this election.  Either way we will win, for God controls His family's destiny.
So get out and vote.  Like Alexis de Tocqueville stated, we have a form of government that allows us to repair our faults, even those that have been forced on us by a minority of misdirected people.  That in itself tells us that there is hope for change.  Exercise the freedom given to you to vote for the candidate of your choice.  But do not despair if your candidate doesn't win, for God will win this election one way or another.  Vote for God and those issues that you know are dear to Him and you will have done your duty to both God and Country.  The rest is up to Him.
