Betrayal by Greg Huett

June 30, 2023

One of our Board members, Greg Huett, shared from his journal the other day, and we thought we would share it with you.  He used the STAR method:

Scripture:

“And if someone asks, ‘Then what about those wounds on your chest?’ he will say, ‘I was wounded at my friends’ house!’”

Zechariah 13:6 NLT

Thought:

Betrayal is a horrible thing. It usually comes from those close to us, otherwise it's not really betrayal. Anyone (any human) is capable of it. Jesus understands the concept better than any of us. After two years of pouring His life into the disciples, upon his arrest, they flushed and scattered like quail.

Application:

I have betrayed others. Others have betrayed me. Lot's of times. BUT, I have NEVER been betrayed by the Lord. NEVER.  Three different situations come to mind. The first involved a corporation I had worked for over 25 years. The second some business partners from a failed venture years ago. And the third after a  conflict with some members of my own family.  They kind of ganged up on me and I felt  betrayed. So much so, that I left the house and spent a couple of days at the office.  While I was there, I strongly felt the Lord telling me that I had made mistakes, and they had made mistakes and that we were both wrong but that regardless, He was there with me and for me. It was like He was saying, "regardless of who betrays you, even those closest to you. I never will.  No matter where you go and  what you do, I will NEVER betray you son.”  It was awesome and I will never forget it.  I packed up my stuff and went back to the house and apologized to my family for my actions. It was a significant milestone in my relationship with the lord. And added significantly to the love I feel for Him and our relationship.

Response:

Father, forgive us for our betrayal of others. Help us to forgive those who have betrayed us and thank you for the reminder that "betrayal" is not a game that you can or ever will engage in.
