Day Seven

As Unto Jesus

Scripture:

“Not with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:” Ephesians 6:6-7

Thought:

The thought is that our work for the Lord is to please Him, not win the approval of others.  Our good and authentic work originates from our heart and flows outward.  It is to do what we do for the Lord, by it being done to the Lord.  I think of what Jesus said about it:

“And the King will answer them, Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”  Matthew 25:40

We do it to Jesus.  This is a different motivation, and for a different reason.  It is less about others, and for sure less about our self and more about Jesus.

Application:

I believe that this is my motivation now.  It wasn’t always the case, for the “orphan spirit” that drove me wanted approval.  I needed to have other people’s approval to think that I had God’s approval.  I grew up with this perspective.  But God has changed that perspective.  It came by way of really getting to know Him, rather than knowing only things about Him.  At the center was the way He loves me.  This turned me around and headed me in the right direction.  His love and nurturing care for me and other children of His has shown me that He has given me permission to fail and still be loved, to try and improve and be applauded by Him, but being given a love not conditioned on my performance.  There is no condemnation by Him, and this makes me want, to deeply want, to please Him and love Him more.

Response:

“Father, I continue to be blessed by my thoughts about You and the way You are.  I pray that this day I will walk with You and allow Your Spirit to fill me and use me to Your honor.  I ask this is Jesus name.
