Day Six

God’s Reckless Love

“The Overwhelming Never-Ending Reckless Love of God” is the lyric being played on my phone as I record this entry. This is so foreign to mankind’s thought process.  It is hard to grasp. We have to leave the way people love, including our self to begin to understand it.  God’s love is completely different.  We have to grasp this fact to be able to receive His love as we should.  It is this love that He teaches us to grasp and then give away.  Can I do this?  What scripture presents this kind of love?

Scripture:

2 Timothy 1:9 “…saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Psalms 117:2 “For His lovingkindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord is everlasting. Praise the Lord!”

Ephesians 3:19 “… and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”

Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.”

Romans 5:7-8 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Thought:

If I am to give this kind of love away, I must understand the foundation of God’s love to me.  Then I might be able to “release” this love to others.  Why would I even try to do this?

Application:

I must try to release His love to my world around me because He loves me like He does.  His love makes me want to love Him back and to please Him.  I feel His pleasure when I love like He does me, for I know it is His Spirit bubbling up to the surface of my life.  This is an indication that He is in control of my life.  I can’t do this on my own.  It requires that He is in control.  It has to be Him loving through me.  This is an indication that there is a healthy, abiding relationship going on with us.

Am I perfectly surrendered to God?  No, but I know this is the target of my relationship with Him.  This is what Lordship means to me.  It means that He is the Lord of my life.  He is THE LORD, but it is the surrendered life, the Living Sacrifice that declares Him Lord over his or her life.

Is there anything in my life that He is not Lord over?  Identifying this area of my life and surrendering it is the process of sanctification in my life.  He sanctifies me by His grace.  His grace is the foundation of my life.  But I have my part to play in a healthy relationship with Him.

Response:

Father, I am grateful for your reckless and sacrificial love for me.  I know that I do not deserve it.  But that doesn’t seem to get it the way of your love does it?  That is what grace means.  It is a gift of unconditional love to a totally underserving man like me.  Thank you for loving me like this.  I ask that you help me receive this love in total, and to in turn release it to my world around me beginning first to myself, to my wife, to my family and friends, to my acquaintances, to the people you bring into my life, and finally to those who represent the most difficult to love.  Love through me Lord.  It is in Jesus Christ name that I ask this.
