Day Two
Seeking Wisdom
Scripture:
“yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:3-5 ESV
Thought:
There are some gold and treasure hunting TV episodes out there. Some people like them. I find it interesting while watching these programs that the characters are willing to invest time, financial resources and alter their life to find this treasure. A few find some gold and treasure. Most don’t, and if they get it, their life is rarely better off. But a fact remains. If they want it, they must seek it, and to do so with reckless abandon. That is what separates the treasure hunters from the treasure finders.
After a lot of years in my spiritual treasure hunt, I’d like to share my experience with you. There is a better treasure map and a better treasure, if you will seek it. This treasure map I speak of is God’s wisdom. God gives wisdom and once we discover it and live our life by this wisdom, then it will lead us to the desires of our heart, which is the treasure we deep down want. This heart’s desire is not a shallow self-centered desire for things or significance. Rather it is a desire that lies deep within us that only God can fill. This wisdom is a treasure map from God that leads us to this treasure we seek, and it is available to all of us if we will seek it. To seek it and find it we must make it our highest priority. We have to alter our life around this seeking, so that we will not allow the counterfeit treasures in this world to lead us off the spiritual map God has given us that leads us to true treasure.
Application:
I have found that the treasure map that the Bible represents has led me to the desires of my heart. However, there is still more to be found. I have found that God’s wisdom helps me understand what I am reading and it helps me interpret the map. I have come the see a constant companion on my journey through life. I have learned to listen to Him, for I know He will never lead me astray. This companion is God’s Spirit, who Jesus promised would come to me.
Response:
Holy Spirit of God, thank You for being my constant companion through life. You have never led me astray, and in fact You have led me on a true course throughout my life’s journey. I ask You to help me hear You more clearly, and act more obediently to Your wisdom and leadership. Your wisdom is what I look to. I seek it with all that is within me so that You can lead me to the true Treasure I long for. It is in Jesus name I pray.
